Friday's Faces from the Past - Harvard Kid #3

This is a photo by G. G. Bruckert from Harvard, Nebraska with no identifying information.  His or her face is slightly blurry.  Written on the bottom of the left shoe is "09 / eu / 40".

When I was looking for a picture of another child taken in this or a similar chair, I noticed something else.  Two things looked familiar with this photo from a post I wrote about Elvie and Elwin Megrue.  First, that furry stuff that the child above seems to be sitting on and this one is laying on.  Second, the gown both infants are wearing look alike, although it's hard to see very well.  I'm sure that those infant gowns were all pretty similar.  I just wondered if this gown was worn by siblings and is actually the same gown.  Elwin Megrue had an older sister named Vernie Faye.  Is the above photo possibly Vernie Faye taken when she was of age for the same gown?  Maybe their mother made them each a gown with the same trim.  What do you think?
These photos and others are in my possession and I would be glad to send them to family who wants them.  Check out all of my Friday's Faces from the Past posts by clicking the link below or under "Labels".

  1. I would guess same gown. I have seen a gown worn by siblings in my own collection. It seems regardless of a family's economics, an infant gown was "special" and destined to become an heirloom.

One tip I read for identifying photos is that hair parted down the middle indicates the subject is a female; side part indicates male. So you could be right about the first photo being the sister.

    1. I appreciate your comments and the tip about the hair Wendy. Seems like I might be on the right track here. Thanks!

  2. I'm actually wondering if this is a later photo of the same child shown in the second photo which you reproduced from your original post. The faces look very similar (nose and eyes) and especially the ears! This would explain the similar or same infant gown and the similar or same "furry stuff" if the child simply went back a few months later when he.she had grown some hair. What do you think?

    1. That's possible, too. It really seems likely that these kids are at least related. Another thing this might indicate is that the photo with the green frame is possibly another photo by Bruckert, and I have a lot of photos with that same frame. Tells me they are all most likely people from the Harvard area. Thanks John, and thank you for mentioning this post in your Saturday Serendipity!

  3. My uneducated guess it is not the same gown, but they are similar. To me, it look like #1 Lace has larger holes, than #2. There also appears to be an extra strip of lace above the elbow on #2, not on #1. It's hard for me to see, but does #1 have stitching like pintucking going up and down just under the collar? Does #2? Just my observations because I do a lot of sewing. They are definitely similar. Both dress and children. Good luck in your search.

    1. Thank you Jacquie, your observations are more educated than mine about the sewing. If we could see #2 better it would help. I appreciate your comment!
